Data Protection Act Information
Introduction
The Data Protection Act lays obligations on schools and other organisations as to how the data it collects is used. We are required to explain this to parents through a Privacy Notice. This Notice can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
The main points are as follows:
-
The school holds data on all of its students and must share specified portions of this data with various other public agencies. This sharing may be direct or indirect: higher authorities may pass on the data they receive from us. However, there are legal limits on what may be shared and with whom.
-
Parents are entitled to know, on request, what data is held about their child. From the age of 12, students themselves may request this information.
-
The Connexions agency provides guidance on careers and opportunities, and general advisory services for young people. To assist in this, the agency is supplied with information about our students. The information passed to them can be limited to just name and address (of parents and students), if parents so choose. From their 16th birthday, students themselves can make this choice.
